Clay Wells Holley

Clay Wells Holley is an award winning music producer, sound designer, mixer, engineer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY.  Providing audio services for music artists and post production for over 25 years, Clay manages everything from the recording and mix of an album, to the sound design and immersive mix for moving picture.

Clay started his audio career while earning his BFA in Philosophy at Arizona State University. After producing and engineering local Hip Hop and Rock acts, he made the decision to leave the desert of AZ for the concrete jungle of NYC. Landing in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Clay quickly secured an assistant engineer position at the legendary Mirror Image Recorders in Manhattan. During that time, he took the skills he honed in music production and synthesis to begin freelancing as a sound designer and mixer for audio post.

Since then, Clay has worked with some of music's most influential artists such as Adele, John Legend, Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan and The Black Keys. Songs he's produced / mixed / engineered have appeared on shows such as True Blood, Entourage, Run, Ugly Betty, Lights Out and Suits, and major motion pictures such as I Love You Man, The Sunshine People, Bride Wars and the soon to be released Lift starring Gugu Mgatha-Raw.

Clay has handled all aspects of the post production process, from sound designing Crybaby Lane, the only movie so scary it was pulled from Nickelodeon, to recording dialogue for the still loved cartoon Courage The Cowardly Dog. He brings a strong sense of storytelling and attention to detail in his work.

Clay is also passionate about education and has been an Adjunct Professor teaching sound for picture in the Computer Animation and VFX Department at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan for the past 20 years. Having taught over 1000 students, Clay has helped the program grow to be one of the top five in the country.
